Description
Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, who comments, “It’s a massive whisky, as bold as it is deep, and one that I sincerely hope does justice to the many generations of Laphroaig distillery managers.
Matured in a combination of casks including x Bourbon, first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks, ‘Lore’ is a marriage of Laphroaig of many ages, some as old as 1993. Tasting note: Pale gold. Opens with a strong lanolin accent and develops with hints of orange cake and dilute iodine but not the overpowering medicinal notes associated with younger distillery bottlings; second pass takes on an earthy aspect that’s more like lucerne mulch / manure, then finally the sweet malt / rock lolly notes come to the fore. Medium dry, clean, fresh entry develops flavours of sweet smoke, dark chocolate, Fisherman’s Friend and salted caramel fudge in the finish. Concludes very delicately bitter (like fine dark chocolate) with a lingering lanolin / iodine / salt’n’pepper tang. Some PX sherry input here? Beautifully balanced at 48% Alc./Vol.
